DODO: Turkey Portraits
MUEZZIN
Muezzin monitors the dramatic progress of a competition to become the country's best singer of Muslim prayers, investigating the phenomenon of individuality within Islamic culture along the way.
While everyone seems to have a soft spot for Turkish cinema, that is for contemporary fiction feature films, there´s still a lot to be said for their slightly lesser known sibling: documentary making. With a history of almost a full century, Turkish documentaries have undergone a radical change in the last two decades, casting a more investigative and somehow critical look on the social, political and cultural contemporary aspects of the country.
During the 2 months of Turkish Portraits in Het Nutshuis, our DODO series will feature 3 evenings of docs + talks about Turkey, moderated by Naima Azough.
