Inside Turkey - AFGELAST!
LET OP: AFGELAST!
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to this year’s second meeting of the Turkey Institute’s seminar series ‘Inside Turkey’:
Joost Hiltermann on “A tumultuous border region: Turkey, Syria and Iraq”
Last year Turkey had to revise foreign minister Ahmet Davutloğlu’s policy of ‘zero problems with neighboring countries’ drastically due to the major crisis in Syria. While the Syrian crisis perseveres and international pressure on Syria’s regime is reaching its zenith, neighbor Iraq is confronted with ongoing domestic instability and is frequently slammed by Turkey for its incapacity to curb the Kurdish PKK in the border region of Turkey and Iraq.
Dr. Joost Hiltermann, who has been our guest before, will provide insights in recent developments in the border region of Turkey, Syria and Iraq. Hiltermann is deputy program director of the Middle East and North Africa programme of the International Crisis Group. He is a regular commentator for international media such as BBC, CNN, The New York Times and Financial Times.
‘Inside Turkey’ is a series of seminars on recent developments in and around Turkey for which a select group of experts or professionals dealing with Turkey is invited. ‘Inside Turkey’ is organized in an interactive roundtable format under the Chatham House Rule with a maximum of 20 participants to facilitate a lively discussion with the guest speaker.
